STEVE COLEMAN & FIVE ELEMENTS

Steve Coleman (Alto Saxophone) – Jonathan Finlayson (Trumpet) – Anthony Tidd (Bass) – Sean Rickman (Drums) Considered as the most creative saxophonist of his generation, Steve Coleman, with his Five Elements quintet, has created M’Base, a unique and avant-garde structure that, according to him, is less about a musical identity than an attitude towards life and its vicissitudes. This year, at the Cully Jazz Festival, he and his group perform pieces from the album Functional Arrhythmias and compositions taken from the Phase Space album with Dave Holland as well as from his previous albums.

JACKY TERRASSON AND GUESTS - SAINT EMILION JAZZ FESTIVAL

Jacky Terrasson is as reliable as reliable is. His music is the reflection of his personality: generous, passionate, contrasted, sensual. Solo, in duo, in trio, his performances, like fine wine, awaken our senses and intoxicate us. A great lover of wine and epicurean delights, Jacky sprinkles his musical expression with scents and savours gleaned from Jazz. He blends in his own concoctions to offer a magnificent 2012 vintage. And let’s not forget that he is one of the greatest Jazz pianists since the 90s, with numerous awards and recognition throughout the world. Once again he appears with one of the greatest bass players of his generation, Etienne Mbappé,...

This accomplished, Swedish musician, composer, conductor, arranger and pianist has, since the 60s, been producing quite singular work, never lacking in humour, with an aesthetic that swings between majesty and comedy.

Brian Blade "Mama Rosa"

This extraordinary musician presents his luminous compositions “Mama Rosa” for the first time at the Cully festival. Appearing alongside saxophonist Joshua Redman and pianist Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade soars so high on his own wings that he goes far beyond the boundaries of “jazz drummer”. In project after project this forty year-old from Louisiana takes his harmonic visions in all directions, whether it’s jazz with a typically 70s fusion feel or rock soul crossed with country and world music, highly practised and quasi-cinematographic.

MARC PERRENOUD TRIO - CULLY JAZZ FESTIVAL

A stunning melodic imagination, devastating power, lyrical intensity of touch, original compositions of sheer beauty: devilishly catchy, the music of the Marc Perrenoud Trio is a concentration of the finest qualities of jazz today, all categories included. The three partners who make up the trio: Marc Perrenoud, Cyril Regamey and Marco Muller are a good example of out-dated modernity. Harmonic complexity, subtlety, sharp writing, it’s all there…
