Kate Tempest at Sónar Festival 2016

2013 recipient of the prestigious Award, granted each year to a new work in the realm of English poetry, KATE TEMPEST began using her prodigious talent for word play by taking the record market by storm with her first disk on Big Dada, the baby brother of hip-hop label, Ninja Tune. The album’s production was entrusted to the expert hands of Dan Carey - a collaborator of, amongst others, M.A.I and Kylie Minogue - and also one of the four members of the band that backs TEMPEST during her live performances. Born in South-East London in 1985, TEMPEST began as an amateur MC and Slam performer on the circuit she now knows like the back of her hand. She then launched into poetry and playwriting and recorded the album Balance with the band SOUND OF RUM, all the while writing the collection of poetry “Everything In Its Own Way”. Her first album on the Big Dada label was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and on the same day she was entered on the list of the Poetry Book Society, which features the most important young poets in the country.
