Universally admired and considered to be one of the foremost hip-hop rappers of our day, Roots Manuva has just created his sixth studio album Bleeds. The singer from Stockwell in South London worked on his new opus with the young English producer, Fred, as well as musical giants like Four Tet, Adrian Sherwood and Switch. Together they have put together an album of sharp and complete compositions, which exude a certain wisdom and obvious mastery of his own language. Manuva takes inspiration from extremely personal soul beats (with samples by Barry White), dub, jazz-funk, and occasionally techno to add spice to his hip-hop. His presence, solo, on the stage of the Sónar Hall has raised the bar even higher this year.
Now signed with Big Dada, a Ninja Tune label specializing in hip-hop, Roots Manuva has built a solid career as a rapper with disks such as “Awfully Deep” and Run Come Save Me”, classics of their kind.
