La Trinité is the Mecca of ocean racing: the wet moorings that look like a parking lot for boats hosts the multihulls of the major racers. Off shore, in the shelter of the Quiberon peninsula, the boat race ballet is never-ending. The Bay of Quiberon is also the only place in the world where the oyster beds are never uncovered by the tides. This is where they produce the famous flat oyster: the Belon. Every year several hundred kilometres of seed oyster collectors are laid down in the bay.
The other part of the documentary is devoted to the ‘little sea’, the literal translation of Morbihan. The gulf extends over a mere 20 kilometres. And yet it is dotted with some 40 islands surrounded by sky blue lagoons that turn to mud flats at low tide. The majority of these islands are private properties, apart from two: the Ile d’Ars and the Ile du Moine, also the most populated.
The only channel allowing passage from the Bay of Morbihan to the ocean is a narrow bottleneck barely 1 kilometre wide. At this point the current reaches torrential speeds to produce the most powerful tidal race in Europe!
