Only 75 square miles, the island of Aix, which faces the mouth of the Charente River is the smallest municipality of Charente-Maritime. Living without cars, to the rhythm of the tides and the ferry service that connects Aix to the continent 4 to 8 times a day according to the seasons, only about 240 inhabitants live here year-round.

It is on this island paradise that two pensioners, Catherine, and Jean-Pierre Flassc spend their time fishing on foot at high tide, or boat fishing for bass, meagre or cuttlefish, taking bike rides and playing games of bridge with their friends as they cook their catch-of-the-day with fresh vegetables from their garden. This is how their life flows peacefully on Aix.
