The Lesser Antilles form a vast archipelago in the east of the Caribbean, a string of islands that symbolize vacation and easy living, but which conceal some highly contrasting realities. A colonial heritage where they speak English, French or Dutch. Exchanges between the islands are made even more complicated because for many the sea has long been synonymous with danger. A fatalism that the members of the Karisko association of Martinique decided to oppose. Aboard their kanawa, a large traditional canoe, they are taking up a challenge: paddle from island to island to reconnect with their often-painful seafaring past.
