The sar is a seawater fish that is relatively unknown to the general public in Brittany. Many people mistake it for sea bream. And the majority of line fishermen even appear to be unaware of its presence in Brittany waters. And yet this species has been decorating the belts of Brittany spear fishermen for years. For a long time it was considered insignificant in the Atlantic because it is a Mediterranean species. But today, the sar is being increasingly fished in Brittany, summer and winter alike. It is a species that seems to be rapidly increasing. Sites like the bay of Morlaix, Treebeurden and Cancale, which are rich in mussel beds, are homes to a large population of big sars. However, for all that, the Brittany sar is not easily caught. Which makes fishing for it attractive and exciting. And with a little experience and practice, it can offer some very intense experiences and memorable moments in spear fishing. As we make a tour of the Brittany coast, punctuated by some interesting encounters, we discover the underwater habits of the sar and some technical advice on free-diving to hunt it.
