Every year a good million visitors lay siege to the village of Porquerolles, the biggest of the three islands in the Gulf of Hyères. Porquerolles’ beaches are all in the north, from the Plage d’Argent to the Bay of Langoustier. In the heart of Porquerolles lie the gardens of the Botanical Conservatory. There you will meet Marie-Claude, who makes jam. She has set up her laboratories in a farm by the name of ‘house of god’. And, divine providence, when you taste her jam you could believe in miracles!
With its 5 forts hemmed in by thick forests, Port-Cros is the wildest of the islands of the Hyères archipelago. On its southern slope rises a belt of rock whose roots plunge 60 metres below the water. To the east of Port-Cros, perched on its rocky peak, the fort of Port Man confronts the Ile du Levant. The most westerly of the islands of the Port-Cros reserve can boast its eclecticism. On one side there’s a top-secret military base, one the other Heliopolis, a temple dedicated to naturism.
